Seventy four boys with reading disabilities and amatched control group of normal readers were followedduring their compulsory schooling (to grade 9). Worddecoding performance was assessed with the Wordchainstest on three occasions. For each student a lineargrowth function was estimated. The slope parameter wasused as the dependent variable in a multipleregression analysis with a large number of explanatoryfactors from grades 2 and 3 including phonologicalskills, reading and spelling, non-verbal intelligence, motor skills, eye movements, teacher ratings of schoolbehaviour and parents' education. The proportion ofvariance in growth explained for the reading disabledboys amounted to 25%, the most powerful predictorsbeing early reading performance and non-verbalintelligence. More surprisingly, neither teacherratings nor family background gave useful predictiveinformation. For the control group none of theindependent variables explained the variance of growthin reading. 相似文献

The article processing charge (APC) is currently the primary method of funding professionally published open access (OA) peer‐reviewed journals. The pricing principles of 77 OA publishers publishing over 1,000 journals using APCs were studied and classified. The most commonly used pricing method is a single fixed fee, which can either be the same for all of a publisher's journals or individually determined for each journal. Fees are usually only levied for publication of accepted papers, but there are some journals that also charge submission fees. Instead of fixed prices, many publishers charge by the page or have multi‐tiered fees depending on the length of articles. The country of origin of the author can also influence the pricing, in order to facilitate publishing for authors from developing countries. 相似文献

Ekholm, M. 1984. Readiness to Help Others and Tolerance: Attitude Development During the School Years and a Ten‐Year Comparison. Scandinavian Journal of Educational Research 28, 71‐86. Attitude of readiness to help others and tolerance towards deviant people have a central place in modern democracies. In one of the studies reported, the development of these two types of attitudes are studied over the school years 4 to 9 in the Swedish school. About 2,000 students answered questionnaires. Readiness to help others in a school setting decreases over the school years. At the same time tolerance towards deviant people increases. A comparison between 1969 and 1979 is also made of the attitude of tolerance among 15‐year‐olds. In 1979 the students' tolerance towards a physically handicapped fellow student was more frequent than in 1969. The tolerance towards social deviant students was, however, less frequent in 1979 than in 1969. Results are also reported on how teachers' expectancies and perceptions of the tolerance of their students have changed between 1969 and 1979. 相似文献

The open access (OA) model for journals is compared to the open source principle for computer software. Since the early 1990s nearly 1,000 OA scientific journals have emerged – mostly as voluntary community efforts, although recently some professionally operating publishers have used author charges or institutional membership. This study of OA journals without author charges shows that their impact is still relatively small, but awareness of it is increasing. The average number of research articles per year is lower than for major scientific journals but the publication times are shorter. 相似文献

Empirical results show that frequently the meaning of expressions used by students in expressing their understanding of subject
matter does not correspond to the meaning of those expressions in the subject matter theory that the students are expected
to learn. There is also often a lack of identity of meaning between the same students’ use of the same expression from one
use of the expression to another, in very similar contexts. The context gives a specific meaning to any expression. This variation
in context and meaning is very central to the phenomena of teaching and learning. In educational research there is a need
to differentiate between specific meanings expressed in conceptualizing subject matter, on the one hand, and concepts and
meanings seen as parts of cognitive systems and social languages, on the other. The contextual character of the use of language
is crucial to the understanding of teaching and learning and needs to be more carefully considered. The article is a discussion
of the problem of varying meanings of language expressions in relation to major traditions of research, focusing on meanings
and concepts within the field of learning and teaching. 相似文献

Dyslexia is assumed to be frequent amonginmates in prisons and in juvenileinstitutions. However, it remains unclearwhether the literacy difficulties observed arereally dyslexic in nature. Seventy inmates injuvenile institutions were studied. In additionto literacy skills, the assessment includedphonological skills, school attendance, cultural background, and self-esteem. Dyslexiain the sense of decoding problems related tophonological deficiencies was observed in 11%of the cases. Most of the inmates withliteracy difficulties had a background, frominfancy and onwards, characterized by severesocial and emotional problems, interfering withpositive experience of literacy and theliterate culture. However, these sub-optimalexperiences of the literate culture do notimply dyslexia. From this perspective, it isunlikely that dyslexia is a determining factorof delinquent behavior. 相似文献
